A young champion of the environment

Innes Fitzgerald looks like a future Olympic champion. Though only 16, she has done well in open international distance running events.

All her photos are copyrighted, but if you look at this page (then click on Images) and know anything about running, you can see that she has excellent style and strength.

She also has excellent strength of conviction, and has been described as “the Greta Thunberg of athletics.” When attending international events in Europe, she travelled by using train and coach rather than flying, even though sometimes this has left her tired, and with less energy for running.

She has informed British Athletics that she won’t compete in an event in Australia because she would need to go on a plane. That would be environmentally irresponsible.

“I would never be comfortable flying in the knowledge that people could be losing their livelihoods, homes and loved ones as a result. The least I can do is voice my solidarity with those suffering on the front line of climate breakdown. Coming to a decision has not been easy, however little compares to the grief I would feel taking the flight.”

Can you see why I am a Professional Grandfather to this generation?

About Dr Bob Rich

I am a professional grandfather. My main motivation is to transform society to create a sustainable world in which my grandchildren and their grandchildren in perpetuity can have a life, and a life worth living. This means reversing environmental idiocy that's now threatening us with extinction, and replacing culture of greed and conflict with one of compassion and cooperation.
