Pre-surgery visualisation

A long term friend and writing colleague is expecting to face complicated surgery. I wanted to send her the pre-surgery visualisation I use, then realised, it may interest many more people. So, here it is for your enjoyment.

Meditation tunes up the immune system, and accelerates healing. It so happens, one of my writing posts describes how to use guided imagery meditation, which is ideal for getting in the right frame of mind for surgery.

We can use this exercise to “be” in any place, any time. So, the place is the recovery ward in the hospital, and the time is soon after having emerged from the anaesthetic. The surgeon is standing by the bedside, with a big grin on his face (my friend’s surgeon is a male). He is saying, “It was a classical textbook operation. I wish I’d recorded it. Everything went perfectly and I expect you to have an excellent recovery.”

Do this exercise from go to whoa, at least once a day and preferably more often. The details can be varied, because the intent is what matters.

A positive and relaxed frame of mind is always a huge benefit when awaiting surgery, and afterward. The healing process is greatly enhanced, and pain is minimised. Great advice Dr Bob!
