When I send out the monthly notification to people who subscribe to Bobbing Around, I put a little personal message in the covering email, but realised, Followers miss out on this. Therefore, here it is, for you:
As every January, I do wish you a preposterous new ear.
Many people I know are in despair, so I thought I’d share a few words that I hope will put a rainbow on your horizon.
Hildegard de Bingen is one of the most wonderful composers of all time, and was also the intellectual leader of her age. And yet, she was sickly from birth, and suffered serious, painful health issues all her life. She was open about her visions and inner voices, which she attributed to God, but in our modern world, that would have stigmatised her as a schizophrenic, and possibly her creativity would have been destroyed by the medications she’d have been required to take.
We all carry different loads on our backs. Environmental destruction, insane politics, the pandemic and its economic effects have been huge loads in the past year. But, as with Hildegard, they can be a spur to spiritual growth. Only two things matter: what we take with us when we die, and what we leave behind in the hearts of others. Everything else is Monopoly money. Look after the heart, the love, and you are fulfilling your purpose as a sentient being.
So, with love to you,
