BOOKS ON SERIOUS GLOBAL PROBLEMS, by John Scales Avery
I electronically met John years ago, and we quickly discovered a huge overlap in our philosophy, interests and motivations, only he has a far more distinguished record of achievements. If you want to be impressed check out his personal background here or here.
John is a highly competent scientist, writer, historian and philosopher, but he is terrible at marketing and publicity. I have been badgering him to cook up his own website, but he ain’t got one yet. So, here are the links to freely downloadable books.
Several of the books are long, but they start with a brief summary, and a table of contents. I recommend reading the books in full, so you don’t take John’s word for anything but assess his evidence and arguments. But if this is too much for you, even in lockdown, then at least read the summary of each.
1. Books about global problems
CLIMATE CHANGE MEANS LIFESTYLE CHANGE
CLIMATE CHANGE, POPULATION GROWTH, AND FAMINE
THE CLIMATE EMERGENCY: TWO TIME SCALES
CRISIS 21: CIVILIZATION’S CRISIS IN THE 21ST CENTURY
LINKED DANGERS TO CIVILIZATION
MONEY, MEDIA AND CLIMATE CHANGE
THE NEED FOR A NEW ECONOMIC SYSTEM
NUCLEAR WEAPONS: AN ABSOLUTE EVIL
POPULATION AND THE ENVIRONMENT
SPACE-AGE SCIENCE AND STONE-AGE POLITICS
WE NEED AN ECOLOGICAL REVOLUTION
2. Books on cultural history.
(I think that history should be taught with less emphasis on war and conflict, and more on the slow progress of human culture and knowledge, to which all nations and ethnic groups have contributed.)
Thank you Joan. Just before I was notified of your comment, I was unwise enough to read the news. All sorts of preventable disasters, people suffering, just so the big corporations can make profits.
So, thanks for providing a balance.
