My favourite villain

Rhobin’s topic for her faithful followers is to talk about the favourite villain in our stories.

That just has to be young Will, the hero of one of the 26 stories in my short story collection, Striking Back from Down Under

So, I re-read the story after some years, and liked it so much that I replaced the previous sample story on the book’s page with this one. You can read it here, and you’ll find out who this girl is.

I’m interested in your opinion. One week from today, I’ll use a random number generator to select one person who commented to receive a free copy of the entire collection. After all, there are still 25 more stories to read!

About Dr Bob Rich

I am a professional grandfather. My main motivation is to transform society to create a sustainable world in which my grandchildren and their grandchildren in perpetuity can have a life, and a life worth living. This means reversing environmental idiocy that's now threatening us with extinction, and replacing culture of greed and conflict with one of compassion and cooperation.

I like the story and the twist at the end. I am so far from my teen years that it’s not funny, but I can always empathize with young love. Your villain is likeable and we feel sorry for him. Nice!

      Thank you, Judy.
He doesn’t feel sorry for himself, so why should you? 🙂
My wish for him is that he should grow from the experience, but my characters don’t listen to me.

I disagree with the ending in a big way. If Matt had sex with Susan, he’s not going to be faithful to the virtuous Mavin–or else he’s going to pressure her to satisfy him, to hold onto him. So it doesn’t seem to be much of a happy ending to me…not for anyone.

      Thank you Fiona.
I am merely the faithful scribe. But Will did end up losing, regardless of the future of the other couple.
As a psychologist, I have often worked with couples where one or both had played around, and now want to continue to build a satisfying relationship. It is more than possible, and yes, even trust can be developed and last for decades.

  4. Great story, Dr Bob. I love the teenage dialogue, and I didn’t see the ‘villainous’ twist coming!

Thank you, Helena. Well, the collection is “Striking Back from Down Under,” so the baddie loses.
But anyway, all I had to do was to write down what Will told me.

That was a fantastic story – with a twist I didn’t see coming. Maybe I should have, but it was fun anyway.

    Bob,

As always I enjoyed your story!

You might wish to reconsider writing that
Susan had a gypsy face. In the States using the
word “gypsy” is considered to be a slur.

So glad that I get to read your stories,

    • Dr Bob Rich says:

Thank you, Margaret. To me, a gypsy face is olive skin, dark flashing eyes, sensuous lips, long dark hair.
But anyway, it’s not my opinion that matters, or yours, but that of the person who told me about her. That’s Will, of course.

My fave villain is Oscar the Grouch. Love that guy. The Grinch is my next fave because of the song lyrics!
