Rich McLean is not quite a starving artist, but not far off. He is about a year off from completing his PhD, and has started a Kickstarter to allow him to survive till then.
There are rewards for investing in his research. His Kickstarter has books up for grabs: his children’s book that supports the Royal Children’s Hospital, his new art book, a documentary on his life and art, and a review of his PhD research with children. Rich being a cooperative, gentle person, this is not research ON children, but genuinely WITH them as collaborators. I know, because I’ve beta read his draft thesis.
Early in his life, he was lumbered with a diagnosis of schizophrenia, which in my opinion is incorrect. But even if it was so, it has turned him into a mental health advocate for many years. He has helped a lot of people, but now he needs help. His work has gained an award, and he has appeared on TV and featured in newspaper articles — but news fades fast.
The project will only be funded if it reaches its goal by Tue, October 1 2019
