We are in the middle of the Australian election campaign. I was riding around on my bike, letterboxing (for the Greens of course), when I saw a long stream of delightful human puppies running, jogging, walking or struggling along, supervised by a chain of teachers and volunteers. One of the local schools was having its cross country running event.
One little girl caught my eyes. She had those bobbles on her head indicating a cochlear implant, arms and legs like matchsticks, and a considerably deformed face.
What was the reaction of the other kids? Whenever she faltered, they waved, and shouted encouragement. Bigger kids jogged alongside her, saying, “C’mon, you can do it!” So, she did.
This is what human nature is really like.
