Habitat destruction is suicide

One of my clichés is: When we unravel the web of life, we also fall through the hole. A new paper in Nature Climate Change reports that over 1700 species are on the way out because things like rainforest destruction, expanding human habitations and farmland, moving climate zones, and changes in rainfall patterns are destroying their habitats.

So, OK, that pretty little bird will be no more. So what, there are other kinds of pretty little birds, right?

Wrong. Living nature is completely interdependent. Chief Seattle was right, you REALLY can’t eat your money.

What can we do?

Another of my clichés: Live simply, so you may simply live. The enemy is the global economy. Sabotage it by seeking contentment in not wanting, rather than by falling for the buzz of consumer society. It is consuming the planet’s entire life support system.

About Dr Bob Rich

I am a professional grandfather. My main motivation is to transform society to create a sustainable world in which my grandchildren and their grandchildren in perpetuity can have a life, and a life worth living. This means reversing environmental idiocy that's now threatening us with extinction, and replacing culture of greed and conflict with one of compassion and cooperation.
